Example of a good interview

The following is not an example of perfection, but it is an example of a good idea that turned out well. One gets the feeling she learned something and that the interview may have helped establish a relationship. Keep in mind there a many interview styles and this is only one.

Student Interview

Growing up, Alicia Fowler lived in California with her four brothers while her father was in the Navy. At the age of thirteen, she moved to Tea, South Dakota where she attended middle school and high school. I have been fortunate to have Alicia as a RA in Sandoz Hall where I am currently living. I couldn’t ask for a better RA!

Alicia is a busy full-time student and enjoys many things. You can always find her reading; she loves all different authors, especially Nora Roberts. She collects dolphins, and enjoys watching movies. Her two favorite movies are The Breakfast Club and Office Space. She also loves to watch the television show, The Orange County with her friends. Her favorite color is blue, and her all time favorite food is quiche.

I found it interesting hearing about Alicia’s experiences going through the interview process to become a RA. Many girls applied for the position and it was very competitive. At first she was discouraged because of all of paper work involved; however, she says the experience so far has been worth it. She loves meeting all the girls on her floor and most importantly she gets free room and board! Alicia is a hard worker and studies all the time. Her hard work has paid off and she has received the New Nebraskan Scholarship each year. Alicia is a perfect example of a self-motivated girl who is determined to succeed!

Alicia has her future all planned out. She is currently a junior at UNL and is majoring in Biology and is working for her minor in Sociology. After graduation, she hopes to be accepted into medical school and eventually plans to be a Pediatric Doctor. After receiving her Doctorate Degree, Alicia wants to settle somewhere nice and warm on the West Coast (possibly California). She loves the beach and hot weather. She dreams of traveling around the world once she becomes rich! Hopefully Alicia will be able to visit Ireland in her lifetime and spend her honeymoon in Hawaii.

If you need good advice on how to succeed at UNL, Alicia is the one to ask! She says...don’t go out on week nights, make sure to balance and manage your time wisely, remember the reason why you are in college...to study! Alicia strongly suggests to start studying in advance for a test and not cram all the studying in one night. She said, “It might have worked in high school but not in college!” Most important she says, “Have fun and meet lots of friends, you are only in college once so make the best of it and live it up!”
