tips for freshmen
Freshman tips

- Accept responsibility for your own life. Don't blame the prof for poor teaching, the alarm clock for not going off, your roommate for distracting you, etc.

- Try to meet and to like your instructors. A positive attitude makes courses easier and more enjoyable.

- Read material BEFORE class. You'll understand the lecture better, take better notes and feel more confident.

- IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM SOLVE IT NOW! Waiting will aggravate the problem and complicate your life.

- Don't take courses that are too difficult. If you have a problem course, get help now or change courses.

- Seek friends who support and encourage you. Avoid friends who are negative or escapist.

- University faculty tend to have different personality types from primary and secondary teachers. If the professor seems alien, talk to quiz section instructors or meet with and get to know the professor as a person.

- If you're desperately lonely and isolated, talk to a friend, talk to an RA, talk to your academic advisor, or call me.

- Organize your time. Make sure you study in a favorable environment and at times when you are operating efficiently.

- Learn about extracurricular activities. Participate in activities which interest you, which help you make friends or which develop new interests.
